When you head south out of Gifford and climb up onto the moor there's a new road sign that shows the left turn takes you to Duns, Cranshaws and Kingside. For those who don't know Kingside was a small settlement that was ‘drowned’ when the Whiteadder Water was dammed to make the reservoir in 1968. The old road that ran though what is now the lake can be clearly seen in the picture below. This is outside our community council area but we still think of it as part of our hills.
Does anyone have any old photographs of Kingside?

Hi, I have quite a few photos and slides of Kingside from 1958-1964. Would have to dig them out from boxes. My great step grandmother (granny Jess) was the school teacher at Kingside School. My Brothers and I spent about a year there from Africa. Also have quite a few of Abby St Bathans , Duns, Cranshaws. Loved working as a beater as a ten year old in the Lammermuir’s. Great way to make pocket money. Cheers Ian
dear ian.i am a collector of rare and old glass slides/postcards and photos and have hundreds of images of mainly dunbar pre1940s and also villages and towns in east lothian/borders.
i have for some time tryed to get something of kingside village but to no avail would you consider selling/exchanging or i have all the nesscessary equiptment to didgitally develop your slides if i may keep 1 or 2 copys my self for a planned exhibition i can if you like even come to you and nothing would have to leave the house i would love to hear back on any of these points from you
